Landon Gray’s Career Transition
Landon Gray, currently serving as the superintendent for Sparta schools, is set to embark on a new chapter in his career. Gray has accepted the position of Executive Director of Finance and Business Services for the Ozark School District. This transition comes after the Ozark school board’s unanimous approval of his hiring on April 17. Gray, who resides in Ozark, anticipates commencing his new role on July 1 for the 2025-26 academic year.
Gray’s extensive experience spans over two decades in the education sector. His journey began as a physical education teacher in Branson before advancing to roles such as elementary principal in Hollister and Branson, and eventually becoming the superintendent of Sparta in mid-2021. His academic credentials include a master’s degree from Missouri State University and a doctorate in educational administration from Lindenwood University.
New Beginnings
In his upcoming role at Ozark, Gray will oversee critical financial operations, including budget management, financial reporting, and the oversight of the technology department. He expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with Ozark Superintendent Lori Wilson and other district leaders to ensure that sound financial practices directly benefit the students, staff, and the community as a whole. “I look forward to working with Superintendent Wilson and the team to secure strong financial strategies that enhance our educational offerings,” Gray stated in a press release.
Transition of Leadership
Gray will succeed Robert Hedgecorth, who will bid farewell to his current role at the conclusion of the 2024-25 academic year due to family obligations. Hedgecorth initially stepped into the role in 2024 after contributing as the Executive Director of Support Services within the Smithville School District. The district expressed gratitude towards Hedgecorth’s service while extending support for his decision to prioritize family commitments.
“While we are saddened to see Dr. Hedgecorth leave, we are excited to welcome Dr. Gray aboard,” remarked Lori Wilson in a press release. “Dr. Gray’s profound expertise in financial strategy and passion for education aligns perfectly with our district’s mission to achieve long-term success and sustainable growth.”
Future Outlook
The Sparta district faces its own transition, with Monday closures in effect and uncertainty surrounding the swift appointment of Gray’s successor. As the district navigates this change, there is a recognition of both Gray’s successful tenure and the anticipation surrounding his achievements in Ozark.
